A RESOLUTION
NO.
WHEREAS, the Downtown Rotary Club of Columbus has recently committed to provide
funding for the planting of over 200 trees in Lakebottom Park;
WHEREAS, the Club has pledged to provide $20,000 over a four-year period to
purchase trees to be planted by the Consolidated Government;
WHEREAS, 50 trees were planted in 2002 and another 50 trees were planted in
February, 2003 and the downtown Rotary Club has raised over $10,000 to date for
this project;
WHEREAS, the project includes the planting of oak trees in the southern portion
of the park in an area which will be called "Rotary Oak Grove";
WHEREAS, this partnership enabled Columbus to achieve the prestigious Tree City
USA Growth Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation;
WHEREAS, the commitment of the Downtown Rotary Club to this beautification
project is worthy of special recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We commend and express our deep appreciation to the Downtown Rotary Club of
Columbus for its generous contributions and commitment to the beautification
project in Lakebottom Park. Columbus citizens and visitors alike will reap the
benefits of this project for years to come. Let a copy of this Resolution be
forwarded to Mr. Cecil Cheves, President of the Downtown Rotary Club.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
15th day of April, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
