The rescheduled monthly meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners of
Columbus, Georgia was held at the office of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce on
Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., the following Commissioners being present:
Leon Siegel, Treasurer
James Yancey
Harry Vernon
Absent: Kathelen Spencer, Chairperson
Mayor Robert Poydasheff
Due to the absence of Chairperson, Kathelen Spencer, Leon Siegel was
appointed as Acting Chairperson.
Management advised the Board of the Water Works? accomplishments in its
Safety Program for this year. Mike Reed, Safety/Benefits Manager for the
Columbus Water Works, introduced Mr. Jimmy Mize of the Georgia Department of
Labor who was present to present the Water Works with the ?Award of
Excellence?. Mr. Mize stated that the Columbus Water Works has set a record
in receiving this award he also stated that no other company has received this
award as many times as the Water Works. The Board thanked Mr. Mize for
attending and congratulated Management and Staff for the excellent safety
program provided by the employees.
Receipt of the Minutes of the April 14, 2003, meeting was acknowledged
by the Board and approved as written.
Using a PowerPoint Program, President Turner presented the 2003-2004
Operating Budget, which had been previously provided to the Board for their
consideration and approval. A copy of the 2003-2004 Budget is on file at the
Water Works office. Following discussion, motion was made and seconded to
adopt the Operating Budget for the Fiscal Year 2003-2004. Motion carried.
Management presented the reports from the Division of Operations,
Division of Engineering and Division of Environmental and Information
Services. Following each presentation, the Board acknowledged the Division
Reports for the month of April.
Management advised the Board that the South Columbus Water Resource
Facility received the Georgia Water and Pollution Control Association (GWPCA)
Platinum Award for six consecutive years for its complete and consistent
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance. Also, the
North Columbus Water Treatment Plant received the Platinum Award for its
complete and consistent Safe Drinking Water Act compliance for five consecutive
years.
The Financial Report for the month of April, along with the Meter
Reading, Employee and Customer Services? Reports, were presented to the
Board. Following discussion, motion was made and seconded to accept the
reports. Motion carried.
In its final order of business, Management provided copies of letters
thanking members of the staff for their participation and services provided
from various organizations and individuals. The Board acknowledged
Management?s report.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
