A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, in September 1963, a group of Christian businessmen and the
Ministerial Alliance of Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama opened the
Valley Rescue Mission as a religious and charitable institution to serve the
homeless and poor in our community;
WHEREAS, the Valley Rescue Mission operated out of a chapel building on Second
Avenue, a building still in use today, and two small houses which have been
replaced by an office building, dinning hall and dormitory;
WHEREAS, over the past 40 years, the Valley Rescue Mission has evolved into a
diverse urban ministry which provides food, clothing, shelter, counseling,
support and assistance to homeless men, women and children, plus a crisis
assistance ministry offering limited financial aid and a drug and alcohol abuse
program;
WHEREAS, this Council desires to recognize the Valley Rescue Mission and its
ministry as it celebrates this important anniversary.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate the Valley Rescue Mission upon its 40th
Anniversary of service to the Columbus community. We express our deep
appreciation for such service to the staff and Board of Directors of the Valley
Rescue Mission, Inc. and we wish them every success in the future. Let a copy
of this resolution be forwarded to the Chairman of the Board of Directors and
the Executive Director of the Valley Rescue Mission.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
16th day of September, 2003, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative
