October 23, 2001
The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull
Creek Golf Course. Members present were Michael Silverstein, Chairman, Judge
Albert Thompson, June Holder, Donald Clack, Rhudine Nelson, Willie Hill and

unexcused absence. Staff members present were John Milam and Steve Brown.
Minutes of the September 2001 Authority meeting were approved as presented.
Motion by Judge Thompson, second by Donald Clack.
Let the minutes reflect that Rhudine Nelson was present for the August 2001
Authority meeting. Ms. Nelson?s name was not listed as an Authority member
present for that meeting.
Report of Steve Brown, Superintendent
Bull Creek Golf Course
? The front side of the East Course has been closed for the last two weeks to
let the course recover from the huge amount of play it has had since it has
reopened for play.
? On the front side of the East Course the following work has been done:
overseeded the tees, installed flex stakes to control cart damage along the
cart paths, installed a catch basin on #8 fairway, strawing non-irrigated areas
and will be painting the greens when cooler temperatures arrive.
? The greens and tees at the West Course have been overseeded. The height of
the greens are being lowered weekly.
? The area along the cart path between the driving range and Golf Tech is being
cleared.
Oxbow Creek Golf Course
? The driving range and the tees have been over seeded.
? Installing drainage between the driving range tee and #9 green.
Godwin Creek Golf Course
? There was no representative from Godwin Creek Golf Course at the Authority
Meeting.
Report of John Milam, Director of Golf
? Bull Creek Golf Course generated revenue of $66,479.50 and had expenses of
$65,387.45 for the month of September 2001.
? Oxbow Creek Golf Course generated revenue of $23,302.33 and had expenses of
$30,812.64 for the month of September 2001.
? Ads for discounted play will appear in the Town Marketing for Columbus &
Phenix City (cost $1,500.00) and in the Columbus Visitors Bureau handout (cost
$600.00)
Old Business
? The course renovation of the backside of the East Course will start January
15, 2002. A change order will be done to include the cost of the bridge to
connect the backside of the East to holes 4-12 on the West Course.
? June Holder suggested that on the new course renovation, that the par 3?s
should be longer than 100 yards for the ladies tees.
? The 1st Tee and Seniors for Kids will combine to form on organization. It
will be called the 1st Tee of Columbus. The 1st Tee Executive Board is now
looking to hire an individual who will serve as the director of the 1st Tee
program and operate Godwin Creek Golf Course.
? The chairmen of the Columbus Golf Authority and John Milam will serve on the
executive board of the 1st Tee of Columbus.
? A lease agreement has been signed between the Columbus State Athletic Fund
and the Golf Authority for the use of the teaching center and the back side of
the driving range at Bull Creek Golf Course.
New Business
? D.J. DeVictor responded to John Milam?s memo, which concerned the general
displeasure with A&F, the irrigation contractors, five bunkers that require
hand raking, and the number of site visits of D.J. DeVictor on the front nine
of the East Course renovation project, with his own memo concerning these
issues. This memo was given to the Authority members to read and digest, so
that a response can be made at the November 2001 Authority meeting.
? Danny Pence has been hired to stabilize the marshal program at Bull Creek
Golf Course.
? John Milam has decided that marshals who play golf on Saturday mornings will
have to pay a cart fee (marshals are allowed to play and ride for free since
they serve as marshals). This will start January 1, 2001. This decision was
made due to limited space during reconstruction.
? The professional staff at Bull Creek Golf Course will be trained to use the
automated external defibrillator. This training has been done at Oxbow Creek
Golf Course.
? The year-end city audit and budget process has begun. John Milam will be
working on the budget for Bull Creek Golf Course and Oxbow Creek Golf Course at
the beginning of the new year.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:50 PM. The next
Authority meeting will be at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at Bull
Creek Golf Course.
Respectfully submitted,
Rick Cravens
