A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Richard Hyatt, reporter for the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, recently

celebrated 30 years as a member of the news staff at the Ledger-Enquirer;



WHEREAS, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, he has worked for both the Atlanta Times

and the Atlanta Constitution;



WHEREAS, he joined the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer in 1972 and became the youngest

sports editor of a major newspaper in Georgia;



WHEREAS, he has served as sports editor, city editor, associate editor and

columnist and has won more that two dozen state-wide awards for writing and

reporting, including the prestigious Green Eyeshade Award for journalism;



WHEREAS, he is the author of eight books, including biographies of President

Jimmy Carter, former Governor Zell Miller, Speaker of the Georgia House Tom

Murphy and southern gospel music legend Jake Hess;



WHEREAS, he is a graduate of Columbus State University with a degree in general

studies and is the proud father of a daughter, Kaitlin Hyatt.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate Richard Hyatt of the Columbus

Ledger-Enquirer upon his 30 years of service to the newspaper and his service

to the Columbus community through 30 years of fair and accurate reporting. Let

a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Richard Hyatt.
