MINUTES # 05-05
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, February 2,
2005, at 2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings,
Ann Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief
Appraiser Martin J. Land.
Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes #04-05, Assessor Richard
Stallings seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously.
The Board approved an assessment correction for real estate.
The following VA letter of application for VA exemption was reviewed:
Crider - 191 032 021 (additional information needed)
The Board reviewed information submitted for Parcel ID 081 022 001 and 001H
regarding non-taxability. The Board of Tax Assessors approved tax exempt status
for 2005.
The Board reviewed the information furnished by the Lower Chattahoochee Service
Company regarding a request for non-taxability for Parcel ID 005 012 001, 002,
018A, 019 and 020. The Board requested a field review.
The Board also approved tax exempt status for parcel ID 080 001 027 for the
year 2005.
Mr. Barrett had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors, but did not
appear (Account # 06580691).
Mr. Khan had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors, but did not appear
(Account # 06520991).
Met with Mrs. Allen representing St. John United Methodist Church of Columbus,
regarding a request for non-taxability for property located at 6541 Moon Rd
(Parcel ID 082 004 011). Ms. Allen said the property is located adjacent to the
church. She said the Boys Scouts troop has all their stuff stored in the
building and are using it as a meeting place for the scouts also the building
is used for other church ministries. Mrs. Allen said the Boys Scouts troop #
107 meets there every Monday. The Board requested a field review.

Met with Ms. Gibbons representing Second Baptist Church of Columbus, regarding
a request for non-taxability for properties located on Psalmond Rd and at 7930
Beaver Run Rd (Parcel ID 120 001 006 and 086). Ms. Gibbons said she did not
complete the request for tax exempt status, because she did not know how. She
said they purchased the two pieces of properties located on Psalmond Rd and
Beaver Run Road for future relocation of the church. She said they plan to
build a new church on this site, when they sell their property on 2nd Ave. Ms.
Gibbons said they were not using the property on January 1, 2005. The Board
advised her to request non-taxability when the church is using the property for
religious purposes. The Board took no action.
