A RESOLUTION

NO.



WHEREAS, the Columbus State University baseball team won the Division II World

Series Championship on June 2, 2002 at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Alabama;



WHEREAS, the win marks the first national championship for the Cougars in the

sport of baseball;



WHEREAS, the Cougars defeated Chico State 5-3 in the championship game as

pitcher Jason Burdette extinguished a ninth-inning rally by the Wildcats;



WHEREAS, the Cougars finished the year with 48 wins, a third place finish in

the Peach Belt Conference and their first baseball national championship;



WHEREAS, this team's great success is worthy of special recognition by this

Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate Columbus State University baseball players

Hurston Pittman, Shawn Sewell, Josh Maner, Chad McConnell, Brad Hightower,

Justin Demant, Andrew Ginther, Ben Sutter, Larry Pittmon, Jon Habrack, Scott

Sears, Chris Gilstrap, Eric Mathis, Zach Speir, Brian Koon, Ladd Hammond, Tom

Capallo, Joel Gooch, Jeremy Pollock, Dash O'Neill, Chris Gabriele, Brian Baker,

Buck Bradberry, Taylor Groce, Jason Burdette, Stephen Worrell, Joel Fincher,

Adam Cannon, Dee Miller and Jay Bayer and Head Coach Greg Appleton and

Assistant Coaches Vince Massey and Charlie Wilbur and Student Assistant Coach

John Miniscalco and Equipment Manager Jonathan Bynum upon their victory in the

Division II World Series Championship held at Paterson Field in Montgomery,

Alabama. Columbus is truly proud of this national championship team?s hard

work and dedication and we wish them every success in the future.
