MINUTES # 13-05



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, March 30, 2005,

at 2:00PM with Chairman Lawton Grantham, Assessors Richard Stallings, Ann

Grantham, William Braxton and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes # 12-05, Assessor

Richard Stallings seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The following VA letters of application for VA exemption were reviewed and

approved:



Sanders - 093 011 030

Hollowell - 111 005 008



The Board reviewed a request for non-taxability for Parcel ID 028 032 007 (1524

20th Street) and requested a field review.



The Board also reviewed the requests for non-taxability for Parcel ID 084 042

018 and 190 028 010. The Board determined that they did not have sufficient

information to rule on the requests and are asking for a representative to

appear before the Board.



Mr. Nichols appeared before the Board regarding his personal property account #

05786601 with taxes being delinquent for the years 2001 through 2004. He said

he moved to Harris County in July of 2002 and moved all his business assets at

the same time. He said his business was located on Kolb Avenue in Columbus. He

said when he moved to Harris County he purchased a business license for the

years 2003 and 2004 and returned his personal property business assets in

Harris County for the years 2003 and 2004. Mr. Nichols gave a copy of his

Harris County business license to the Board. The Personal Property Division

staff verified with the Harris County Tax Assessors? Office that Mr. Nichols

had returned his personal property in Harris County for 2003 and 2004. Assessor

Richard Stallings made the motion to remove the assessments for 2003 and 2004.

Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion; motion approved.



Met with Residential Division Chief Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

following:

Res Div Chief O?Brien presented the results of a field review regarding parcel

ID 096 013 017 and reported that the property was leased. The Board upheld the

removal of homestead exemption for 2005.
