MAILING OF INFORMATION PAMPHLETS: Total Number of animals registered during
fiscal year 2003 was 30,469. Based on this figure the estimated cost to
publish and mail an information pamphlet would cost this division for postage,
$6,100.00 and for publishing $630.00. A total of $6,730.00. Please note this
figure does not include man-hours.
TETHERING OF ANIMALS: We've had discussions with various Board Members and
some local Veterinarian's and all agree this is a law that needs to be in
place. This is for animals being transported on public rights-of-way and not
on private property.
The purpose of this law is to protect animals when traveling on public
rights-of-way. Currently, animals are allowed to roam freely in the back of
open bed vehicles and when involved in an accident, the animal becomes a
projectile. There are no laws on the books that specifically require pet
owners to tie down or take safety measures regarding their animals when in the
back of open bed pick up trucks. In regards to public safety, it will prevent
an animal from jumping off a vehicle in traffic, in parking lots and jumping or
lunging towards the general public walking down the street.
NUMBER OF PETS FOR OWNERSHIP: This request has been placed on the agenda for
the next Animal Control Advisory Board Meeting.
