A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, on January 6, 2002, members of Columbus-area churches were involved in

an accident on Interstate 77 near the Virginia-North Carolina state line while

returning from a ski trip sponsored by St. Paul United Methodist Church;



WHEREAS, several teenagers were rushed to hospitals in both Galax, Virginia and

Winston-Salem, North Carolina;



WHEREAS, members of the Virginia State Patrol, members of Oakland United

Methodist Church in Galax, and other citizens of Galax rallied to support the

Columbus group as did church groups and medical personnel in Winston-Salem;



WHEREAS, the citizens of Columbus and this Council are deeply grateful for the

support and compassion shown by the people of Galax, Virginia and

Winston-Salem, North Carolina.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby express our deep appreciation to the citizens of Galax, Virginia and

Winston-Salem, North Carolina and the Virginia State Patrol for their aid and

support of members of Columbus-area churches involved in an accident on January

6, 2002. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Mayors of Galax,

Virginia and Winston-Salem North Carolina, Rev. Randy Morris of Oakland United

Methodist Church, and Mr. Brad Burnett of the Virginia State Patrol.
