February 4, 2003
Agenda Report #____017____
TO: Mayor and Councilors
SUBJECT: FY03 Budget Adjustment to the Greenspace Fund
INITIATED BY: Finance Department
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------
Recommendation: Approve an ordinance amending the FY03 budget for the
Greenspace Fund by $321,815 from $511,532 to $833,347 for activities related
to the preservation of greenspace.
Background: In March 2001, the Department of Natural Resources awarded the
Columbus Consolidated Government an initial grant of $590,557 for the
acquisition and maintenance of real property consistent with goals of the
Greenspace program. We have received additional allocations totalling $532,634
in FY02 and FY03. In order to spend the monies available, the spending
authority of Community Development must be increased because the allocations
exceed the current budget of $511,532. Staff is requesting that the budget be
increased so that spending authority is granted to undertake activities
associated with the purchase of land for the preservation of greenspace.
Analysis: The budget adjustment will increase the spending authority of the
Community Development Department to purchase land and pursue other activities
consistent with the preservation of greenspace.
Financial Considerations: Funds will be appropriated to Community Development
in the amount of $321,815 increasing the budget to $833,347.
Recommendation/Action: Approve an ordinance amending the FY03 budget for the
Greenspace Fund by $321,815 from $511,532 to $833,347 for activities related
to the preservation of greenspace.
