SUBJECT: Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia



INTIATED BY: City Manager?s Office





Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and if approved

accept a grant of $20,000 from the Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia

from funds allocated by Congress from the Juvenile Justice Accountability Block

Grant and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by like amount.



Background: Funds have been allocated to the State of Georgia to improve the

Juvenile Justice System in Georgia. Columbus is eligible for $20,000.



Analysis: The funds will be used for counseling services, psychological

evaluations, and residential ? therapeutic care. The grant period begins

October 1, 2002 through September 30, 2003.



Financial Considerations: The grant is for $20,000 with no matching funds.

The funds will be used for purchase of services for the Juvenile Offenders

Program.



Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government has been notified

of its eligibility to receive these funds.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT A GRANT TO THE COUNCIL OF JUVENILE COURT

JUDGES TO THE COLUMBUS/MUSCOGEE COUNTY JUVENILE COURT TO FUND THE PURCHASE OF

SERVICES FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS PROGRAM AND AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND

BY A LIKE AMOUNT.



WHEREAS, funds have been made available from the Office of the Council

of Juvenile Court Judges, for the purpose of improving the juvenile justice

system and providing services for juvenile offenders; and,



WHEREAS, Columbus is eligible for $20,000; and,



WHEREAS, the grant period runs from October 1, 2002 to September 30,

2003.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit and if approved

accept a grant from the Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia for $20,000

to fund the Columbus/Muscogee County Juvenile Court Purchase of services for

Juvenile Offenders Program and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by a like

amount.



Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the
