A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Army OCS Class 6-02 at Ft. Benning and its Commander, Lt. Col.

Daniel Kessler, have established a memorial to honor former graduates of the

Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning who lost their lives on September 11,

2001;



WHEREAS, Lt. Gen. Timothy Maude, retired Col. Richard "Rick" Rescorla, and Lt.

Col. Stephen Hyland, Jr., graduates of Ft. Benning's OCS, all died during

attacks on New York and the Pentagon;



WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Kessler and his colleagues planned and initiated a 6,000

square foot memorial including a granite monument bearing the names of the

three fallen OCS graduates, newly planted trees, benches and a small brick wall

in only 24 days;



WHEREAS, the memorial will serve as a lasting reminder of the dedication of

these OCS graduates and all those who serve our country through the armed

forces, whether stationed at Ft. Benning or elsewhere.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and express our deep appreciation to the Army OCS Class 6-02

at Ft. Benning and its Commander, Lt. Col. Daniel Kessler, for their initiative

and resourcefulness in planning this beautiful memorial for the Columbus and

Ft. Benning community. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Lt. Col.

Daniel Kessler and Major Gen. Paul Eaton at Ft. Benning.
