SUBJECT: FY2003 Holiday Schedule

Recommendation: Approve the attached Holiday Schedule for the FY2004 Budget. It

is recommended that December 26, 2003 be designated the floating holiday.



Background: The Holiday Schedule has historically been approved by City Council

to assist various departments and organizations in developing their calendar

schedules. All holidays are established with the exception of the floating

holiday.



Analysis: The floating holiday has traditionally been used to extend a date

specific holiday (Independence Day, Christmas or New Year's Day) to provide a

long weekend for employees. In FY2004, it is recommended that Christmas

Holiday period be expanded to include December 26, 2003.



Alternatives: The floating holiday could be designated to follow a day

specific holiday, for example, extending the holiday weekend for New Year's Day

or adding Columbus Day as an option. The floating holiday could also be

designated to recognize some other event or occasion.



Financial Considerations: None



Recommendation: Approve the attached Holiday Schedule for the FY2004 Budget. It

is recommended that December 26, 2003 be designated as the floating

holiday.





















A RESOLUTION



No.



WHEREAS, all holidays are established with the exception of the floating

holiday; and,





WHEREAS, the floating holiday is designated to be December 26, 2003 to expand

the Christmas Holiday period.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:



That the Holiday Schedule for FY2004 is hereby approved as attached designating

the FY2004 floating holiday as the day after Christmas, December 26, 2003



INTRODUCED at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held on

the

7th Day of January, 2003; and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote

of members of said Council.
