The rescheduled monthly meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners of

Columbus, Georgia, was held at the office of the Columbus Water Works on

Monday, April 22, 2002, at 4:00 p.m., the following Commissioners being present:

Kathelen Spencer, Chairperson

Leon Siegel, Treasurer

James Yancey

Harry Vernon

Mayor Bobby Peters



Receipt of the Minutes of the March 11, 2002, meeting was acknowledged

by the Board and approved as written.

President Turner introduced William Kent, Manager of Environmental

Compliance for the Columbus Water Works. Mr. Kent advised the Board that each

year the Columbus Water Works recognizes a few industries that strive to comply

with the many rules and regulations of the water/wastewater industry. The

Water Works nominated five of their industrial customers for their level of

achievements in environmental excellence to the Georgia Water and Pollution

Control Association (GW&PCA). The GW&PC recognized three of our industrial

customers. The recipients are as follows:

Plant of the Year Award for Environmental Compliance

Pratt-Whitney - Gene Smith



After the awards presentation the Board congratulated each company for

doing an outstanding job in protecting our environment.

Management presented the reports from the Division of Operations,

Division of Engineering and Division of Environmental and Information

Services. Following each presentation, the Board acknowledged the Division

Reports for the month of March.

The Financial Report for the month of March, along with the Meter

Reading, Employee and Customer Services? Reports, were presented to the

Board. Following discussion, motion was made and seconded to accept these

reports. Motion carried.

President Turner advised the Board that this year the Water Works will

have its National Drinking Water Week celebration at Oxbow Meadows due to the

heightened security at the Water Plant. The event will be Saturday, May 11,

2002 from 10:00 a.m. ? 2:00p.m. The River Kids? Network and several

departments of the Water Works will have displays set up for the public to

review. Also, there will be plenty of food and drinks available. The Board

acknowledged President Turner?s report.

Next, President Turner gave an update the Board on the progress of the

ACF Compact negotiations between Georgia, Alabama and Florida. The Board

acknowledged the report.

Last on the agenda, President Turner provided copies of letters

thanking members of the staff for their participation and services provided

from various organizations and individuals. The Board acknowledged

Management?s report.

There being no further business the senior staff and the Board went

into Executive Session to discuss a legal matter. No action was taken.
