A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, George W. Ford, Columbus businessman and civic leader, recently
received the Jim Woodruff, Jr. Memorial Award;
WHEREAS, the Award is sponsored by the Greater Chamber of Commerce and was
given at the Chamber's annual banquet on January 28, 2003;
WHEREAS, Mr. Ford is the first black businessman to receive this prestigious
honor;
WHEREAS, Mr. Ford was born and raised in Columbus, founded Progressive Funeral
Home in 1952 and has served on the boards of AFLAC, Inc. and Columbus Bank and
Trust Company;
WHEREAS, at the award ceremony, he was praised for his civic-minded leadership
and many contributions to the Columbus community.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate George W. Ford upon his receipt of the Jim
Woodruff, Jr. Memorial Award. His contributions to our community serve as a
shining example to all Columbus citizens. Let a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to Mr. George W. Ford.
