SUB: Regional 9 Mental Health, Mental Retardation &

Substance Abuse Board.

Regarding those concerns expressed by Councilor Turner Pugh at the April

16, 2002 Council meeting regarding the request of the Region 9 Mental Health,

Mental Retardation & Substance Abuse Board, who had submitted a request asking

for three (3) nominees for the two positions on that board, please be advised

that the State law has not changed as to the appointment of board members.



However, it has been pointed out to me that the bylaws give the board the

authority to make such a request. I have spoken with the Executive Secretary,

Ms. Tammy Williams of the board, and she states that it would be permissible

for the Council to just submit only one (1) name for each of these two

positions.



I will list these two positions on next week?s Council agenda under the

board appointments for the Council to make any nominations.



Please advise if there are any additional questions or if further

clarification is needed in this regard.
