A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Colonel (USA Ret) Richard ?Dick? Warren McKee died on October 24, 2005;
WHEREAS, Colonel McKee was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 24, 1931
and he attended Western Michigan University where he played varsity football
for four years and graduated in 1954 with a BA in English and from the ROTC
program as a distinguished military graduate;
WHEREAS, he served as Director of Public Service for Columbus, Georgia for over
19 years from 1983-2002;
WHEREAS, Colonel McKee began his US Army career as a 2nd Lieutenant in August
1954 and was assigned in the US and Europe before serving three tours of duty
in Vietnam;
WHEREAS, Colonel McKee returned to Ft. Benning, Georgia where he served as DPCA
from 1976-1978 and from 1978-1980 as Deputy Post Commander until his retirement
in 1980;
WHEREAS, he was the recipient of the CIB, the Legion of Merit Medal, the
Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters,
Meritorious Service Medals with two Oak Leaf Clusters, eight Air Medals with V
Device, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Armour Medal and Republic of Vietnam
Gallantry Cross;
WHEREAS, Colonel McKee also served as Vice-President of the local United Way
from 1980-1983;
Whereas, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Marie, their children,
Richard Warren McKee, Jr. and his wife Janice, Linda McKee Hill and her husband
Peter, David Charles McKee and his wife Lynn, Michael Keith McKee and
grandchildren Emily Jean Trakas, Richard Warren McKee, III, Russell David
McKee, David Charles McKee, Jr., Jessica Leigh Hill, Michael Joseph McKee,
Chelsea Victoria Hill and Virginia Rose McKee, and a brother Keith McKee of
Chicago.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Colonel (USA Ret) Richard ?Dick? Warren McKee. His service to the Columbus
community and to his country will long be remembered. Let a copy of this
resolution be forwarded to the family of Colonel (USA Ret) Richard ?Dick?
Warren McKee.
