Meeting 8 June 2004

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Duke Miller at 5 p.m., in the

Mayor?s Conference Room in the Government Center. The following personnel were

in attendance:

Daphne Dove-Pierce From CSU - Tom Dolan

Deidre Williams

Bill C Walton

Duke Miller

Bunky Clark

Stacy Poydasheff

Tonya Douglass

Joe Feliciano

The minutes of the previous monthly meeting were discussed and approved.

CIRCLE Treasurer Joe Feliciano presented his report. With some accounts

payable, plus some monies set aside for the RiverCenter Artwork dedication and

possible transportation for Mr. Arai to Columbus and back to Japan, we have a

total of $2733.52 in our account. It was recommended and approved that we close

our CB & T project account as this money will be used in the Artwork dedication

ceremony.

New CIRCLE member Deidre Williams introduced herself to the Commission and gave

us a bit of background information on herself.

The Picture Book project is still on hold. Duke Miller will check with Ed

Wilson on this and have a report for the next meeting.

Ed Wilson sent a fax to Mr. Arai inviting him to the Artwork dedication in

July. It is expected that the reply will arrive before the July CIRCLE meeting.

Duke Miller reported he had a meeting with James Baudoin concerning a plaque

for the Reflections Artwork in the RiverCenter. It has been decided,

provisionally, that a wooden stand will be placed near the Artwork with an

informative plaque on it, plus space for some of the Reflections brochures.

Daphne Dove-Pierce reported she had received three quotes for refreshments for

the Artwork dedication ceremony. They came from The Wyndham, The Rankin Deli

and the 12th Street Caterers. However, in a discussion with James Baudoin,

from the RiverCenter she found out that it could also provide refreshments at a

probable lower cost than the other three. She offered to get a quote from the

RiverCenter, but it was decided that she has the authority from the Commission

to negotiate for the refreshments from the RiverCenter without the necessity of

getting an estimate and presenting it to the Commission, which would delay the

process another month.

Tom Dolan reported on the progress of the Kiryu Student visit in July 2004.

Sponsoring families for the Home Stay are still needed. The 27 July Picnic,

sponsored by the International Network will be held near the clock tower on the

CSU Campus.

The question whether CIRCLE should participate in the International Festival,

sponsored by the Mayor?s Commission on Diversity at the Columbus Civic Center

on 1 August 2004,was the next order of business. Some members reported that

the last time this was tried it didn?t go very well, due to lack of CIRCLE

members showing up at the Festival.

A motion was made, seconded and approved by the Commission that CIRCLE will not

have a booth at the International Festival, and that CIRCLE members are

encouraged to volunteer their help at the Kiryu Students booth.

The printed program for the Artwork dedication was discussed. It was suggested

and approved that a paragraph explaining what CIRCLE does should appear on the

back of the program.

The next CIRCLE meeting will be held at 5 p.m, on 13 July, 2004 in the Mayor?s

Conference Room in the Government Center.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at about 6 p.m.

Respectfully submitted

Bill C Walton, CIRCLE Secretary
