A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF APPROVED ACCEPT A
GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $102,340.00 FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
JUSTICE TO SUPPORT THE COSTS OF THE GANG RESISTANCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING
PROGRAM ( G.R.E.A.T. PROGRAM) AND AMEND THE FY04 MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE
AMOUNT OF THE GRANT.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Consolidated Government and the Columbus Police
Department are committed to programs designed to decrease gang violence and
gang membership; and,
WHEREAS, the G.R.E.A.T. Program has provided educational and alternative
programs to juveniles who are at risk; and,
WHEREAS, the United Sates Department of Justice is currently accepting
applications for a Grant specifically for the G.R.E.A.T. Program, which
requires no matching, funds from the Columbus Consolidated Government; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department has requested permission to make
application for the amount of $102,340.00 to support this program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for and accept, if approved
$102,340.00 in funding from the United States Department of Justice for the
operation of the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program. The FY06
Multi-governmental Fund is amended by the amount of the grant.
