The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, January 8, 2003,

at 2:00PM with Chairman Beatrice Breaux, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard

Stallings, Ann Grantham and William Braxton present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Martin J. Land.



Georgia Code 48-5-298 requires the first order of business on the first meeting

of each year is for the Board of Tax Assessors to appoint a Chairman and a

Secretary for the upcoming year. Assessor Lawton Grantham nominated Assessor

Beatrice Breaux to be the Chairman, seconded by Assessor Richard Stallings. The

motion carried unanimously. Assessor Lawton Grantham nominated Martin Land to

be the Secretary, seconded by Assessor Richard Stallings. The motion carried

unanimously.



Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes #49-02, Assessor

Lawton Grantham second the motion, motion carried unanimously.



The Board discussed Calvary Christian School?s request for non-taxability for

parcel ID 073 022 008. The Board asked Chief Appraiser Martin Land to contact

Rev. Wilhite and ask him to submit a request for non-taxability for the year

2003.

Met with Mr. Ingram representing the Christian Service Centers, Inc. requesting

non-taxability for property located at 2400 Fort Benning Rd and 6227

Williamsburg Road (Parcel ID 062 055 015 and 100 019 077). Mr. Ingram said they

receive most of their funds for the Christian Service Centers, Inc. from the

home base in San Antonio, Texas. He said they also receive some funds from

local religious organizations. He said the property (2400 Fort Benning Rd) is

primarily used for the purpose of reaching out to men and women in the service,

in a home-like environment. Mr. Ingram said they had religious devotions and

Bible classes. He said they also offer refreshments and recreation. He said

they began using the Center in July of 2002. He said he is the Minister. Mr.

Ingram said the property located at 6227 Williamsburg Rd is used as a parsonage

for the director of the Christian Service Centers, Inc. The Board requested Mr.

Ingram to submit the articles of incorporation and the by-laws for Christian

Service Centers, Inc. The Board delayed action until the requested information

is received.
