Subject Removal of a Burned Building



Description Have the staff to go over the guidelines when a house burns in a

neighborhood and what our process is, to have that structure removed. (Request

of Councilor Turner Pugh)

Response Burned buildings follow the same demolition procedure as any other

structure which has been identified as unsafe and/or unfit for human

habitation. Exceptions to the procedure are those which are in the

investigative process by either an insurance company or the fire department.

Occasionally, we will have to wait until an agency has completed their use of

the physical evidence (the burned building) before we can proceed with actual

demolition. Generally, we are not delayed by fire investigations.
