MINUTES # 18-02



The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, May 8, 2002 , at

2:00PM with Chairman Beatrice Breaux, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard

Stallings and Ann Grantham present. Also present was Chief Appraiser Martin J.

Land



Assessor Ann Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes #17-02, Assessor Richard

Stallings second it, motion carried unanimously.



Chief Appraiser Martin Land presented applications for conservation use

assessment; agreements for continuation of conservation and preferential

agricultural assessment. The Board approved the following applications and

continuations: Parcel ID 163 001 008, 154 001 020, 154 001 022, 154 001 002,

154 001 021, 102 001 068, 165 001 005AH, 178 001 001, 103 001 018A, 103 001

018H, 103 001 017, 103 001 017A.



Met with Attorney Allen Rothschild requesting non-taxable status for parcels ID

071 006 009 and 072 003 001. Mr. Rothschild told the Board Columbus Technical

College Foundation, Inc. owned both parcels. He said Columbus Technical College

Foundation, Inc. is a 501 ( c ) (3) public charity whose mission is to support

the operation of Columbus Technical College. He said the properties were gifts

and are leased to Columbus Botanical, Inc., another 501 ( c ) (3) charitable

institution. He said the lease payments they receive are used to cover the cost

of ownership of the property. Mr. Rothschild said the facilities are available

to the general public, students and faculty members of Columbus Technical

College. The Board expressed concerns about receiving rental income. Mr.

Rothschild said he would furnish the Board some additional information. The

Board delayed their decision until Mr. Rothschild furnishes the information.
