The Board of Elections and Voter Registration Board Meeting was called to order
by the Chairperson, Walter J. Wright, Jr.
Motion was made and seconded to accept the June board meeting minutes. Motion
seconded, vote unanimous.
NEW BUSINESS: Local Option Sales Tax ? Nancy has discussed the actual wording
of the ballot with the City Attorney to see if HB709 specifically specifies how
the wording is to appear.
Ken stated that he wants a voting day incident log made available with every
incident recorded so that the board will be aware of the problems and
complaints that are called in during the election day.
Two names were submitted for the non-partisan representative that oversees the
remaking of the ballots. Ken submitted Jim Suddreth and Margaret submitted
Mattie Wright. It was agreed that Mattie Wright would be the Non-Partisan
representative.
OLD BUSINESS: The pollworker training sessions are being held. A training
session is scheduled for today at 2:30 so that the board could attend and hear
what information is given to the workers. The training session for the area
managers will be held on July 8, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.
Ken brought up a concern about the campaign signs that are placed at the
businesses on second avenue, across from the Government Center. Nancy
conferred with the City Attorney who stated the signs were more than the 150
feet requirement.
The U.S. Justice Department has approved the precinct changes that were
submitted.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
