A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, proposed HR 58 in the Georgia General Assembly would eliminate ad
valorem taxation for education and would substitute a three percent state sales
and use tax in its place;
WHEREAS, the proposed change in local school funding by the sales tax would
take place on January 1, 2008;
WHEREAS, after January 1, 2008, school systems could only levy an ad valorem
tax for the purpose of retiring outstanding debt issued or occurring before
January 1, 2008;
WHEREAS, this Council is not in favor of such a proposal and desires to
express its opposition to HR 58.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our opposition to proposed HR 58 in the Georgia General
Assembly. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the local legislative
delegation to the Georgia General Assembly.
