Background
There has been a preliminary study to determine the feasibility of a river

restoration project for the Chattahoochee River. The scope of this project

includes restoring a section of the river back to its original state.



The Corps of Engineers has reviewed the preliminary study and has shown

interest in pursuing a partnership between the City, Corps of Engineers and the

private sector. The Corps will expand the preliminary study to determine the

feasibility of the project. At the conclusion of the study performed by the

Corps of Engineers any additional participation by the City will be approved by

the Columbus City Council.
Analysis
An analysis will be available as a result of the Corps of Engineers study.
Financial Considerations
There are no financial obligations to the City unless Columbus Council approves

such funding after the Corps of Engineers study is completed.

Legal Considerations
The City Attorney has reviewed the non-binding agreement and has no objection

to the resolution.

A RESOLUTION

NO.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN A NON-BINDING LETTER TO THE

CORPS OF ENGINEERS DESIGNATING THE CITY OF COLUMBUS AS A NONFEDERAL SPONSOR

OF THE RIVER RESTORATION PROJECT.

WHEREAS, there has been a preliminary study to determine the feasibility of a

river restoration project for restoring a section of the Chattahoochee River to

its natural state; and,

WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has reviewed the analysis and has shown

interest in being a partner in the project; and,

WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers will conduct an in-depth study of this

project; and,

WHEREAS, no City funding will be expended on this project until the Corps study

is completed and the Columbus Council approves expenditures of any City funds.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY

RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to sign a non-binding letter

to the Corps of Engineers designating the City of Columbus as the Nonfederal

Sponsor of the River Restoration Project for a section of the Chattahoochee

River. No City funds will be expended on this project until the study is

completed and Columbus Council approves expenditures of such funds.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the

day of , and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of

members of said Council.
