Recommendation
Approval is requested to submit an application and if approved accept from the \n \n United States Tennis Association (USTA) foundation in conjunction with the NRPA \n \n Step Up to Health Initiative with the city. The grant amount requested is \n \n $3,000.00 for tennis equipment to be used at the Benning Park tennis courts.

Background
This program is designed to offer youth ages 5-18 the opportunity to learn to

play tennis and improve their academic skills in a structured format while

focusing on fun, team work, fitness and education, and to create a community

tennis programs for special populations including persons with mental,

emotional, physical and developmental impairments. Each program will be

designed to teach motor skills, coordination, inclusion and teamwork. The goal

is to get youth and our special population active, build stronger bodies and

minds and reduce obesity.
Analysis
The USTA and NRPA are both nationally recognized organizations that focus on

the quality of life for citizens.



Amend:
Financial Considerations
The grant amount requested is $3,000.00 for the Community Schools Division

Columbus Parks and Recreation. The City is not required to put up any matching

funds to participate in this grant.

Legal Considerations
Grant applications are approved by Council.
Recommendations/ Actions
Authorize a resolution to approve the application of and acceptance for grant

funds in the amount of $3,000.00 from the USTA for the Department of Parks and

Recreation Community Schools Division to purchase equipment to implement a

community based tennis program at the Benning Park tennis courts.
