Summer Lunch Program and Subsequent snack program during the summer vacation
period and throughout the school and fiscal year 2003-2004 and provides meals
to children who might not otherwise receive nutritious meals.

The total grant amount is $533,861. The City is not required to put up any
matching funds to participate in this grant and funding will be handled by
reimbursement.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF
$533,861.00 TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OFFICE OF SCHOOL READINESS USDA SUMMER LUNCH
PROGRAM AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE CITY TO ACCEPT THE MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL
DISTRICT NUTRITION PROGRAM TO ACT AS VENDOR OF THE PROGRAM. ADDITIONALLY, TO
PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS USDA APPROVED SNACKS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR 2003-2004.
AS THIS PROGRAM IS RUN DURING SUMMER, FISCAL YEARS 2003 AND 2004 ARE INCLUDED
IN ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDS.
WHEREAS, when school closes for the summer, an important source of nutritious
meals for many low income children is lost. The Parks and Recreation
Department, Community Schools Division provides this Summer Lunch Program and
subsequent snack program during the summer vacation period and throughout the
school and fiscal year 2003-2004 and provides meals to children who might not
otherwise receive nutritious meals; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department administers the After
School Program in 33 locations throughout the city; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if
approved accept $533,861 in grant funding from the Office of School Readiness
for the Department of Parks and Recreation, Community Schools Division to
participate in the OSR Summer Lunch Program and subsequent snack program.
There are no matching funds required.
Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the
