Recommendation

Approve the agreement to construct a new road (Eastern Connector from Buena \n \n Vista Road to Macon Road SR22) identified as Project #STP-8042(6), Muscogee \n \n County, between the Georgia Department of Transportation and the City of \n \n Columbus (see attachment).

Background

The Georgia Department of Transportation has provided an agreement for the City

to execute, which would construct a new road in the Need for Land (NFL)

property that was obtained from Ft. Benning. This project is in the

Transportation Improvement Program.

Analysis

The City's responsibility for this project is design, utility relocation and

signalization. The City would also be responsible for providing all

rights-of-way and/or easements needed for the construction of the project and

remove existing structures or obstructions within the right-of-way.

Financial Considerations

The Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for construction. The

City of Columbus is responsible for the cost of design, utility relocation and

right-of-way. Funds are available in the 99 SPLOST funding.

Legal Considerations

The City Attorney has reviewed the contract and has approved it as to form.

Recommendations/ Actions

Approve the Resolution authorizing execution of the above described agreement

between the Georgia Department of Transportation and Columbus-Muscogee County
