Background
-
Boxwood Drive begins at Macon Road and runs southerly to Lindsey Creek. This
same roadway is named Boxwood Boulevard from Lindsey Creek south to Stratford
Drive which is confusing to motorists. The 5th Avenue/19th Street roadway
improvement project changed the alignment of 5th Avenue, 19th Street and
Talbotton Road by creating a new intersection as noted by the attached
drawing. The Traffic Engineering Division sent out a survey to adjoining
property owners in March 2003 for which a summary sheet is attached.
-
Analysis
-
This ordinance proposes to rename all of the segment south of this intersection
as 5th Avenue. The alignment of Hamilton Road north of this intersection did
not change; so it will remain as Hamilton Road. Talbotton Road was extended
west from its existing alignment at 8th Avenue westward to 2nd Avenue at the
old 19th Street alignment. Since this is an extension of Talbotton Road, this
segment is proposed to be renamed Talbotton Road from 2nd Avenue to 8th Avenue.
-
Financial Considerations
-
The Traffic Engineering Division will replace the affected street name signs at
a cost of about $2,000 that will be derived from their operating budget.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement

-
Legal Considerations
-
The change of an official City street name requires Council Approval.
