Recommendation

Approval is requested to execute a Quit Claim Deed for the alley adjacent to \n \n Rose Hill Memorial Baptist Church, Inc. The alley is located at the rear of \n \n 1300 and 1306 23rd Street and behind 1301, 1305 and 1307 22nd Street a/k/a Tax \n \n Maps 028-014-002, 003, 004, 001, and 025 to make an addition to their building \n \n and parking lot (see attached letter and map).

Background

The property owner is requesting that the City execute a Quit Claim Deed for

all rights, title and interest the City may have in the above described alley.

The Church future use includes an expansion of their facility. Additionally,

the closing of the Alley may eliminate some of the crime that has been

occurring in the area.

Analysis

The alley is located along the Eastern side of 13 Street on Tax Map 028 in

Columbus, Georgia. Written confirmation has been received from all public

utilities stating there are no active utilities located in this alley. The

Engineering, Public Services and other City Departments have examined the alley

and has no objections to the abandonment. The Traffic Engineering Department

advises that it may be necessary to install ?No Parking? signs if abandoning

the alley becomes an issue.

Council must approve the execution of a Quit Claim Deed.

Recommendations/ Actions

Authorize the City Manager to execute a Quit Claim Deed to the Rose Hill

Memorial Baptist Church, Inc. for the alley located at the rear of 1300 and

1306 23rd Street and behind 1301, 1305 and 1307 22nd Street a/k/a Tax Maps

028-014-002, 003, 004, 001, and 025.
