Background
This program is designed to offer nutritious meals for low income children ages

18 and under.
Analysis
When school closes for the summer, an important source of nutritious meals for

many low income children is lost. The Parks and Recreation Department,

Community Schools Division administers this Summer Lunch Program and subsequent

snack programs during the summer vacation period and throughout the school and

fiscal year 2004 - 2005 to provide meals to children who might not otherwise

receive nutritious meals. This Program is offered in 55 locations throughout

the City.
Financial Considerations
The grant amount is $500,000. The City is not required to put up any matching

funds to participate in this grant and funding will be handled by

reimbursement.
