Recommend approval of the attached ordinance deleting the street segment and \n \n right-of-way of Bay Avenue from the north right-of-way line of Dillingham \n \n Street north to the south right-of-way line of 10th Street from the "Official \n \n Street Map, City of Columbus, Georgia."

Background

The City is working with Foundation Properties, Inc. with the development of

the Uptown Campus for the Columbus State University campus that will be located

between Front Avenue and the Riverwalk and also between Dillingham Street and

10th Street.

Analysis

The CSU campus will generate a high volume of pedestrian traffic between

buildings/classes that would otherwise have to cross the vehicular traffic of

Bay Avenue. The permanent closure of this segment of Bay Avenue would provide

safer pedestrian access. A Resolution authorizing the disposal of this street

segment will be on the Council Agenda with the 2nd reading of this ordinance.

Financial Considerations

The deeding of the existing Bay Avenue street and right-of-way will not include

any exchange of funds.

Legal Considerations

The deletion of a public street from the "Official Street Map, City of

Columbus, Georgia." requires Council approval.

Recommendations/ Actions

Council is requested to approve the attached ordinance deleting the street

segment and right-of-way of Bay Avenue from the north right-of-way line of

Dillingham Street north to the south right-of-way line of 10th Street from the

"Official Street Map, City of Columbus, Georgia."
