Approval is requested to submit an application and if approved accept a $10,000 \n \n grant from The National Eye Institute in conjunction with The Step Up To \n \n Health Initiative for the health and well-being of our citizens? eyesight. The \n \n funds are to be used for screenings and to offset costs for Health Expos. Amend \n \n the Mulit-Governmental Fund for the amount of the grant awarded.

Background

This program is designed to offer services, product and knowledge on the
importance of eye safety and protection. In our community not only do we need
to address eye protection of our city employees but also that of our citizens
active in recreational activities where injury can take place.

Analysis

The National Eye Institute is funding this grant at minimal cost to the City of
Columbus. The grant funds are to be used for vision screenings in our centers,
the Mayor?s Fitness Challenge and Health Expo.

Financial Considerations

The proposed grant amount is $10,000 for the Community Schools Division
Columbus Parks and Recreation. The City is not required to add any matching
funds to participate in this grant program

Authorize a resolution to approve the application for a grant in the amount of
$10,000.00 from The National Eye Institute for the Department of Parks and
Recreation Community Schools Division to implement a Healthy Vision program
with quarterly screenings and two annual Health Expo?s.
