Approval is requested to submit an application and if approved accept a $5,000 \n \n grant from the Cal Ripkin Foundation for a a Community Baseball Program the \n \n ?Ripkin Way? to purchase equipment and provide field supplies to implement the \n \n "Quickball" Program. Amend the Multi-Governmental Fund for the amount of the \n \n grant awarded.

Background

The ?Ripkin Way? program provides funding to create baseball programs in
high-risk communities for field maintenance and field supplies. This effort
will help provide safe playing areas for youth. The ?Ripkin Way? program is
fun, imaginative and active games that teach motor skills, coordination,
inclusion and teamwork through baseball. The ?Quickball? equipment grant is to
implement programs to youth who do not play structured baseball or softball in
a fun more relaxed setting

The Cal Ripkin Foundation is designed as a tool to help young people develop
positive character traits such as leadership, teamwork and good sportsmanship
while developing a healthy lifestyle.

Financial Considerations

The grant amount is $5,000 for the Community Schools Division Columbus Parks
and Recreation. The City is not required to add any matching funds to
participate in this program.
