Approval is requested to purchase the property located on the river side of \n \n Fieldcrest/Pillowtex (12th Street to 14th Street), identified as a "River \n \n Walk", on the attached plat in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, (see \n \n attached plat).

Background

The City of Columbus has constructed a "River Walk" along the Chattahoochee

River. The City is in need of the property behind Fieldcrest Cannon, Inc

(Pillowtex). from 12th Street to 14th Street. Uptown Columbus purchased

Fieldcrest Cannon, Inc. in 2004. Uptown Columbus will transfer the property as

needed for the River Walk for the amount of the taxes.

Analysis

The City will purchase the property located behind (river side) Fieldcrest

Cannon, Inc. from 12th Street to 14th Street for the construction of a River

Walk.

Financial Considerations

The property will be sold for $72,500.

Legal Considerations

Council must approve the purchase of the property. The property will be

transferred by Deed with the Superior Court Clerk for permanent record.

Recommendations/ Actions

Approve the attached Resolution authorizing the purchase of the

above-identified property.
