Background
The Columbus Trade and Convention Center is in the process of expanding. The

expansion will extend out over an abandoned rail line right of way (ROW) that

is located behind the Trade Center. This rail line is owned by the Georgia

Department of Transportation. The City needs to acquire this ROW in order to

have ownership of the property that will be part of the new location of the

expanded Trade Center.



The ROW that is included as a part of the agreement is located from

approximately 7th Street to 12th Street.
Analysis

A RESOLUTION

NO.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN ABANDONED

RAIL LINE IN THE AMOUNT OF $11,820.

WHEREAS, the Columbus Convention and Trade Center is in the process of

expanding the facility by approximately 100,000 square feet

WHEREAS, the expansion will be located over an abandoned rail line which is

located from approximately 7th Street to 12th Street in the rear of the

Columbus Convention and Trade Center that is currently owned by DOT

WHEREAS, the City needs to have ownership of the property where the expansion

will be constructed

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY

RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the DOT and

authorize payment in the amount of $11,820 for the purchase of an abandoned

rail line located from approximately 7th Street to 12th Street in the rear of

the Trade Center to facilitate the expansion of the Columbus Convention and

Trade Center.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held the

day of , and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of

members of said Council.
