Background
The Buena Vista Road Project has been a part of the Long Range Plan for

transportation improvements. During the planning process this project was set

up to be a four lane section with turning lanes. This concept was established

based on demographic projections that have not materialized.

During the public involvement process the proposed concept had community wide

opposition. As a part of this process an alternate concept was developed by

an engineering consultant under contract with Mid-Town organization. The

concept is a 3 lane section with intersection improvements. This concept is

more in line with the Department of Transportation's Context Sensitive Design

scheme, than the original 4 lane with turning lane concept. The alternate

concept does have the potential to present right of way challenges in the

future if widening of the network becomes necessary. The alternate concept

provides a more pedestrian friendly road network and the opportunity for

economic growth along the network.
Analysis
DOT provided a Long Range Transportation Model for the traffic projections

for this area.
Financial Considerations
Department of Transportation and Federal Highway will have to approve new

concept before funding can be identified.
