Background
Columbus has been authorized funds by the Georgia Department of Transportation
for the purpose of studying the possible relocation of the Columbus Railyards.
The study is designed to look at the potential for relocating the rail
activities, and to determine the future use of the area.
Analysis
The study was initiated by the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce to help
determine 1) if the existing railyards could be moved; 2) where potential new
locations for this use could be found; and 3) the future land use for this
existing site. Upon the completion of this plan, both the City and the Chamber
will work towards its implementation.
Financial Considerations
Georgia Department of Transportation will provide $215,327 in federal funding,
with a required match of $ 53,831.75, to be provided by the Greater Columbus
Chamber of Commerce.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION FOR TO CONDUCT A STUDY FOR THE RELOCATION OF THE COLUMBUS
RAILYARDS.
WHEREAS, funding is available from the Georgia Department of Transportation to
conduct a study on the potential relocation of the Columbus Railyards; and,
WHEREAS, the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the City have agreed to
participate together in the development of this study,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a negotiated
contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation to provide an initial
comprehensive study for Columbus railyard relocation. Funding will be provided
by a grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation ($215,000). The grant
requires a twenty percent (20%) match, which is the responsibility of the
Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce ($53,750). Funding sources will be
available and determined later.
