Background
The City and Developers pay for installation of roadway lighting as part of the

construction on new and existing streets. The City pays for the energy cost

monthly. The lighting fixtures are operated and maintained by Georgia Power.

Currently the City has three providers for power services in the community.

Georgia Power has been implementing an initiative to replace existing roadway

lighting fixtures with LED lighting fixtures.
Analysis
Georgia Power has submitted a proposal to replace High Pressure Sodium Cobra

Head Fixtures with LED Roadway fixtures. The new fixtures will provide more

efficient lighting of the roadways and reduced energy consumption. The

photocells on the fixtures will also be replaced at a later time which will

allow the lights to be monitored for outages. Going through the process will

also give a more accurate count of the number of existing lights. It is

intended for the project to begin in August 2015.
Financial Considerations
The replacement will be at no cost to the City. The City will not receive a

reduction in energy cost.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement
There may be some savings with a more accurate count of the number of roadway

lights.
Legal Considerations
This action requires Council approval.
Recommendations/ Actions
Approval is requested for the City Manager to sign the authorization agreement

with Georgia Power for the replacement of existing roadway lighting fixtures

throughout the community at no cost to the City.
