Background
The City is making an effort to improve the railroad crossings throughout the

County and resurface 9th Street.
Analysis
An estimate has been provided by Central of Georgia Railroad of $355,011 for

concrete crossings along 9th Street at Front Avenue, Broadway, First Avenue,

Second Avenue, Third Avenue, Veterans Parkway and Fifth Avenue. The 6th Avenue

crossing will be upgraded at the time the Flood Abatement work in the area.

The City will pay for the panels and the Railway will perform the work between

the rails. The asphalt work will be done under separate contract.
Financial Considerations
Funds are available in the 1999 SPLOST Railroad Crossing Project Account and

1999 SPLOST 9th Street Improvement Project Account.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH CENTRAL OF GEORGIA

RAILROAD COMPANY FOR RAILROAD CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS AT FRONT AVENUE AND 9TH

STREET, BROADWAY AND 9TH STREET, FIRST AVENUE AND 9TH STREET, SECOND AVENUE AND

9TH STREET, THIRD AVENUE AND 9TH STREET, VETERANS PARKWAY AND 9TH STREET AND

FIFTH AVENUE AND 9TH STREET IN THE AMOUNT OF $355,011.

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus is making an effort throughout the County to

improve the railroad crossings and intends on making road improvements to 9th

Street; and,

WHEREAS, the City has spoken with Central of Georgia Railroad Company and they

have provided estimates to upgrade crossings located at Front Avenue and 9th

Street, Broadway and 9th Street, First Avenue and 9th Street, Second Avenue and

9th Street, Third Avenue and 9th Street, Veterans Parkway and 9th Street and

Fifth Avenue and 9th Street; and,

WHEREAS, the City will coordinate the work schedule with Central of Georgia

Railroad Company and reimburse them for their expenses as per agreement.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY

RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an agreement with

Central of Georgia Railroad Company for reimbursement of expenses per agreement

for railroad crossing improvements at Front Avenue and 9th Street, Broadway and

9th Street, First Avenue and 9th Street, Second Avenue and 9th Street, Third

Avenue and 9th Street, Veterans Parkway and 9th Street and Fifth Avenue and 9th

Street in the amount of $355,011.
