Recommendation
Approval is requested to execute a permit agreement with Georgia Department of \n \n Transportation (DOT) for construction work associated with the replacement of \n \n the City's existing combined sewer system along the 6th Avenue Corridor and \n \n side streets, Phases I-V.

Background
The City is working on the Flood Abatement Project -6th Avenue and Side Street

Improvements. The DOT owns several tracks in the area that are operated under

an agreement with Georgia Southwestern Railroad. Council approved Resolution

418-07 for an agreement with GaSW for reimbursements of the expenses associated

with removal and replacement of the the tracks.
Analysis
Work within the limits of the track requires a separate permit from the DOT.
Financial Considerations
Funds are availalbe in the 1999 SPLOST Railroad Crossing Improvement Project.

Council is the approving authority for all resolutions.

Authorize the City Manager to execute a permit agreement with Georgia

Department of Transportation (DOT) for replacement of the City's existing

A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PERMIT AGREEMENT WITH

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMODATE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CITY'S

EXISTING COMBINED SEWER SYSTEM.

WHEREAS, the City proposes to replace the existing combined sewer system

located at a point beginning at the Chattahoochee River and lying generally in

a northward direction to 14th Street and lying primarily in the right of way

6th Avenue,

WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation (DOT) owns certain tracks operated

under an agreement with Georgia Southwester Railroad within the City of

Columbus, and the replacement of the combined sewer system will cross beneath

the tracks of the Railroad and require the Railroad to remove and restore its

tracks in certain locations and to oversee borings and open cuts at certain

locations to accomodate the City project.

WHEREAS, a permit is required from the DOT in order to perform the required

work,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY

RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an agreement with Georgia

Department of Transportation (DOT) for a permit to accomodate the replacement

of the City's existing combined sewer system, 6th Avenue and Side Streets

System Phase I-V.
