Background
The DCED provides a framework to assist communities that want to incorporate

smart growth in their future developments to meet environmental and other

community goals.
Analysis
Selected communities or states will receive technical assistance in the form of

a multi-day visit from a team of experts organized by EPA and other national

partners to work with local leaders. EPA plans to assist three to five

communities over a period of twelve months. The selected communities will be

announced in fall of 2009.
Financial Considerations
This competitive grant award will provide technical assistance from the EPA for

communities that want to incorporate smart growth techniques into their

processes and development. No CCG funds are required.

The City Attorney finds no issues with this request.

Recommendations/ Actions
Approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit to the EPA a

grant request to participate in the Smart Growth Implementation Assistance

program.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF APPROVED ACCEPT TO

PARTICIPATE IN THE SMART GROWTH IMPLEMENTATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FROM THE

DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY, AND ENVIRONMENT DIVISION OF THE U. S. ENVIRONMENTAL

PROTECTION AGENCY AND AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE GRANT AWARDED.

WHEREAS, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications

for its Smart Growth Implementation Assistance program; and,

WHEREAS, the DCED provides a framework to assist communities that want to

incorporate smart growth in their future developments to meet environmental and

other community goals; and,

WHEREAS, this competitive grant award will provide technical assistance from

the EPA for communities that want to incorporate smart growth techniques into

their processes and development. No CCG funds are required

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and

if approved accept the Smart Growth Implementation Assistance program grant

from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and amend the Multi-Governmental

Fund by the award of the grant.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia, held
