Recommendation
The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department ("Parks & Rec") and the Columbus \n \n Planning Department recommends approval of the Columbus Parks & Recreation \n \n 20-Year Master Plan (the "Plan").

Background
The Parks & Rec Department approached the Planning Department in 2010 regarding

the creation of a long-range comprehensive plan for parks and recreation

facilities and programming. The Planning Department began the process in

January 2011 and completed the project in December 2013. The Plan was

introduced to Council via a presentation on February 11, 2014.
Analysis
The Plan is vast and detailed. It includes a review of the city of Columbus

and functions within it; current facilities and programs; local insights

particular to specific parks and facilities; general and site-specific

recommendations; and a 20-year phasing plan contingent on the availability of

funding.

There are no financial considerations but the plans provides a framework to

phase in projects when feasible.

A RESOLUTION



NO. _____________





WHEREAS, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the

Columbus Planning Department to create a 20-year master plan for comprehensive

park facilities and program planning; and,



WHEREAS, the master plan is a long-range planning document presented

in goals, strategies, and action steps that creates a vision and a guideline

for a coordinated effort to deliver parks, greenways, recreation, and cultural

arts services over the next 20 years; and,



WHEREAS, the master plan does not commit City Council to a funding timeline for

implementation, and the recommendations in the plan will be implemented as

funding opportunities become available; and,



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:



That the Council of the Columbus Consolidated Government hereby adopts the

attached Twenty Year Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan.
