Background
There remains a portion of street that was formerly Reese Road (Old Reese
Road). Reese Road was relocated and widened in years past. This section of
roadway serves as frontage/access to 6 lots, 4 of which have been purchased by
the developer for retail development. There are existing utilities in the
area.
Analysis
The developer has requested that a portion of the right of way be abandoned in
order to construct a retail business and meet the requirements of the UDO.
Financial Considerations
The developer has committed to construct at their expense a public 10 ft
concrete multi-purpose trail on the right of way for Reese Road in exchange for
0.212 Ac of right of way. The developer will also be responsible for all cost
associated with abandonment and sale of the property.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement
The City would assume maintenance of the trail after the construction.
Legal Considerations
The Columbus Council has the sole authority to declare the City properties and
rights-of-way surplus and to approve their disposal.
Recommendations/ Actions
Approve the attached resolution deleting from the "Official Map of Consolidated
Government of Columbus, Georgia" an improved segment of formerly Reese Road
(Old Reese Road) between the south right of way line Milgen Road along the
eastern right of way line of Reese Road for a distance of approximately 220
ft, declaring it surplus and authorizing its disposal in accordance with the
City Codes.
