Background
The Sustainable Skylines Initiative (SSI) grant provides a framework to

integrate transportation, energy, land use and air quality planning programs

into projects that yield measurable air quality benefits in a relatively short

period of time. SSI works with eligible entities to aid communities to develop

locally-led activities to help reduce emissions and promote sustainability with

the goal of cleaner and healthier air. This is performed by participants

working with EPA and other partners to increase community participation and

leverage resources. The long-term goal of SSI is to help communities build

self-sustaining, community-based partnerships that will continue to achieve

positive environmental impacts, livability, and economic development benefits

for many years to come.
Analysis
EPA will award five cooperative agreements to communities and agencies

throughout the country. If awarded, the grant would be used to help finance

the clean air efforts the city is currently undertaking.
Financial Considerations
This competitive grant award will provide up to $125,000 for this effort. No

matching funds are required.

Recommendations/ Actions
Approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit to the US

Environmental Protection Agency, a grant request for the Sustainable Skylines

Initiative.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND IF APPROVED ACCEPT A

$125,000 SUSTAINABLE SKYLINES INITIATIVES (SSI) GRANT FROM THE U. S.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY AND AMEND THE MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY THE

GRANT AWARDED.

WHEREAS, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications

for its grant program Sustainable Skylines Initiatives (SSI) grant program;

and,

WHEREAS, the SSI Grant Program is designed to assist communities to develop

locally-led activities to help reduce emissions and promote sustainability with

the goal of cleaner and healthier air; and,

WHEREAS, the competitive grant funds would be used to promote the city's clean

air program;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to submit an application and if

approved accept a $125,000 Sustainable Skylines Initiatives (SSI) grant

application from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and amend the

Multi-Governmental fund by the amount awarded.
