Background
-
Residents along Jackson Road that runs from Lynch Road to Garrett Road and that
portion of Lynch Road from Yarbrough Road north the Jackson Road expressed
concerns about truck traffic operating along these roadways. Both of these
roadways have residential properties. Traffic Engineering install advisory
Truck Route to direct trucks along Garrett Road to Yarbrough Road to Lynch Road
south to Macon Road for the purpose of redirecting truck traffic away from
Jackson Road.

Analysis
-
One of the issues that the City addresses is complaints about truck traffic and
when does truck traffic become a problems. All roadways have a small
percentage of large trucks (trucks with three or more axles) that is inherent
to make pick-ups and deliveries or that may be in route to their headquarters
or for repairs. Occasionally, there is evidence that the asphalt/concrete road
surface is damaged by heavy trucks. And it is rare that we find accident
problem that is directly related to truck traffic.
To help answer the question "When are heavy trucks a problem?", Traffic
Engineering researched all of our Vehicle Classification counts over the last
ten year to determine the normal percentage of trucks and when the number of
trucks within the traffic significantly high. You may review the attached
report that gives us a history of heavy truck traffic.

Financial Considerations

The Traffic Engineering Division will incur an expense of about $75.00 for each
