Background
The Traffic Engineering Division received a request to enact parking

restrictions on 29th Street from Bradley Circle westward to the dead end of

29th Street. An investigation reveals this portion of 29th Street and all of

Bradley Circle are very narrow, having pavement approximately 14 feet from curb

to curb. Parking vehicles on both sides of the roadway prevents the flow of two

way traffic and hinders access by large City Service vehicles such as Garbage

Trucks, Fire and EMS vehicles.
Analysis
The Traffic Engineering Division surveyed 33 property owners, 6 agreed with the

proposed restriction, 4 did not agree with the proposed restriction, 5 surveys

were returned as undeliverable, and 18 did not respond.
Financial Considerations
The cost of installing Official Traffic Control signs will be derived from the

Traffic Engineering operating budget.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement
Legal Considerations
All ordinances require the approval of Council.
Recommendations/ Actions
Approve the ordinance enacting "No Parking Anytime" on the outer curb line of

Bradley Circle as indicated and on the northern curb line of 29th Street

between it's eastern and western intersection with Bradley Circle.

Subject: Proposed Parking Restriction

Dear Resident:

The Traffic Engineering Division received a request to enact a parking

restriction on the north curb of 29th Street beginning at 1st Avenue running

westerly to the west side of Bradley Circle and the outside curb of Bradley

Circle as indicated on enclosed map. The complaint is that when cars are parked

on both sides of the street, it is impossible to maintain two-way traffic. This

practice also blocks emergency vehicle access.

The purpose of this survey is to determine the availability of off

street parking for property owners. The Traffic Engineering Department will use

this information to determine the feasibility of removing parking on one side

of the roadway in order to provide two-way traffic and maintain motorist

safety.

Hence, this office plans to recommend to Columbus Council to enact a No

Parking Zone Anytime on the north curb of 29th Street beginning at 1st Avenue

running westerly to the west side of Bradley Circle and the outside curb of

Bradley Circle as indicated on enclosed map.

Our practice is to conduct a Parking Survey for all proposed parking

restrictions. We would appreciate you completing the attached survey and

returning it to our office by mail, fax (706-225-4637), phone (706-653-4135) or

by email (trafficengineering@columbusga.org). Your comments will be used to

determine whether to create a parking restriction and if so which side of the

street to enact the parking restriction. A copy of your comments will be

included with the Council recommendation.

Should you have any questions, please give us a call at 706 653-4135.

Cordially,

Ronald E. Smith
